Levo Credit Union Celebrates Opening By Giving Away $10,000 to Siouxland Charities
A credit union will celebrate opening in Sioux City by giving away $10,000 to Siouxland charities.
Levo Credit Union opened its first building in Sioux City, IA. Levo purchased the former Heritage Bank Branch and opened on January 21st after earning federal approval from both the FDIC, which governs banks, and the NCUA, which governs credit unions. To celebrate joining the Siouxland community, Levo’s foundation plans to award 10 $1,000 donations to 501C3 non-profits in the Siouxland area.
“Levo means ‘to lift up’, and that’s what we try to do for our communities,” says Jen McKeown, who leads the Levo Cares Foundation. “What better way to lift up a community than to help those who help others?”
To be considered for a donation, the non-profits must be 501C3 public charities and must serve the Siouxland area. Non-profits can apply by going to levo.org/day-of-giving to complete a form. The deadline to enter is February 28th, although Levo will evaluate additional donation requests later in the year. Winners will be announced on March 19th, during an event at Levo’s new Singing Hills Branch at 4530 Singing Hills Boulevard. The event will start at 11 a.m. and include check presentations to the 10 winning non-profits.
“Levo believes in helping our community because our community has made us what we are today,” says McKeown. “Community service is part of who we are as an organization, and we are proud to bring that to Siouxland.”
Last year the Levo Cares Foundation – funded mostly by Levo and by Levo employee donations – gave more than $99,000 in goods and services to over 80 causes. Not only that, but its employees also volunteered more than 1300 hours for charitable organizations. Levo offers employees paid time during work hours to volunteer and gives credit towards vacation time to employees who volunteer during non-work hours.
In December 2023, Levo announced an expansion of its service area from 4 counties around Sioux Falls to 29 counties along the I-29 corridor in South Dakota, Iowa, North Dakota, and Minnesota. Levo already offers online financial services in all 29 counties, including several Iowa and South Dakota counties in the Siouxland area.
