Levo Credit Union Honors Veterans With Donation To Big Paws Canine
Levo is donating $1,000 to Big Paws Canine Foundation in Hartford to honor all veterans this Veterans Day. Big Paws is a public 501(c)(3) that trains service dogs for veterans and former first responders. They charge veterans/former first responders a very small fee for dogs and training. Levo learned about the need for donations through a note from a Levo member.
Gail Dickerson, who trains the dogs, says they’ve probably trained over 1,000 dogs since they opened their Midwest location several years ago in Hartford.
“There is growing awareness of how service dogs can help with symptoms of PTSD, brain trauma, mobility, and breathing problems,” says Gail. “We use donations to help fund several teams in various ways, including shots, adoption, wellness, food, toys, leashes, and other needs.”
“Levo is grateful to be able to serve those who served us, and this is such a wonderful organization that serves a big need,” says Jen McKeown, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Levo and Executive Director of the Levo Cares Foundation. “We have always strongly supported veterans’ causes. We serve many members who are veterans and our Air Guard Branch used to be the Air Guard Federal Credit Union before merging with us many years ago.”
Levo’s $1,000 will become $2,000 thanks to an anonymous donor who has offered to match Big Paws' donations up to $10,000 for Veterans Day.
